try a smoky eye, skip the silver and go for a matte grey or a chocolate brown instead

also black doesn't work well on everyone, I use a deep purple eyeliner with a peachy shawdow for a nice day look

and a nice chocolate brown with gold highlighting for evening

try navy, grey....

as you see with the last one she has rimmed in black but has a bright blue shadow. If your eyes are small only line half the bottom eye, not corner to corner. makes it look smaller

When I usually think of emo makeup, I thi of bright neon colours and very thick eyeliner (on both top and lower lashes) with a thick cat eye/wing.

Try doing deeper shades of bright colors. And I don't think silver would look very goth. And you don't have to line your top lash line. I never do because I usually have a lot going on anyway. And like Erica said, you should try a cat eye it always looks good.

I have a style that I've used for years since I was a teenager that can fit just about any look...

It uses ONLY eyeshadow, and no eyeliner. Pick two colors that go well with your eyes and skin tone (I have hazel eyes so I usually use shimmery gold and olive green).
Line your upper eyelid with the darker color, and make it go down the corner of your eye close to your nose and onto your bottom eyelid a little. Then use the lighter color on the bottom and blend them at the inside corners. I could do it and take a picture if that would help.

I've noticed though that it doesn't work well with black or white eyeshadows.

A dark eggplant purple is a great colour to add in to your makeup collection - I'm not emo, but whenever I do my fave dark purple/eggplant look, all my friends start calling me emo, which is a good thing for you! (Less good for me, heh).

But I'd go for mixing some brighter colours along with dark liner, it would work great. I think it is the silver that would be making your look seem less emo, since I always think goth if I see black with white or silver. For me, emo is really similar to the 80s-90s punk looks a childhood friends dad had (he was absolutely fantastic, and had a checkerboard mullet in bright blue and pink, and let her dye her hair orange, pink and purple when she was like 12. Her mum was NOT pleased XD) which was black with bright colours. Neons would work well.
