Mooncup

Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone used the mooncup?
Im really at my wits end with my period and this sounds like a solution but i dont wanna buy it and then its too difficult to use. I have read the testimonials but just wanted to see if others use it or bought it and then couldnt use it.
Any advice on the mooncup would be great! Thanks

I never heard of it before but just looking at the directions I'd say NOOOOO!!!! That seems really unsanitary- it’s like rinsing your tampon out and reinserting it every couple of hours! Nasty! Plus can you imagine having to empty your mooncup at the store or restaurant and having someone walk in on you rinsing that out in the sink? Not to mention doing so will splatter blood all over the sink and toilet- someone from the store will have to come in and clean it up and I'm sorry as an store employee I don't want to clean up after someone else's menstrual blood. That seems like way too much work anyhow because you have to wash your hands before you clean it, empty it, clean it, reinsert it, and wash your hands again. Tampons and pads are way simpler in comparison and they save you the embarrassment of having to leave the bathroom stall (risking bleeding in your pants in the meantime) to rinse out a bloody cup in the sink.

There is a reason why pads and tampons have been used for literally thousands of years- they are the most efficient way to deal with one’s period. And you shouldn't mess with something that already works.

i agree with pinkweeds! it sounds gross, sorry i can´t help.
maybe it´s good for people who have allergic reactions from pads or tampons because of the bleach or are all eco or organic/whatever so they don´t want to use cotton that was bleached... i just want to throw that stuff away that comes out of me in not so nice condition ;) and by the thought i have to rinse and clean it, uaaahh! you can imagine i can´t understand people who sew themselves pads and wash them too, but that´s another story...
if you only talk about the use i can imagine there´s a similar problem as with the nuva ring. the ring is made from plastic and you insert it, it gives you contraceptive hormons so you won´t get pregnant, BUT i know friends who had that and it constantly fell out because the ring isn´t shaped for all "sizes" and shapes of vaginas.

I've heard people rave about this, but I think it sounds absolutely disgusting. Sorry, but I would never use one. Like Pinkweeds said it sound very very unhealthy and I just couldn't imagine not getting blood on yourself. If you can't stand your period at all you could try getting on a pill that only give you your period three times a year.

Theres a post on the eco-board thats quite old but a lot of people discuss cloth pads and their experiences with the moon-cup:

I use the mooncup... best invention ever!
You save so much money! Besides, you can have it in all day (12 hours) and not having to wonder about anything..
It's not gross or anything, it's very clean and the greatest thing that I have found.. in fact, it's a lot cleaner that tampons or pads and there's no waist. By using this instead of tampons you are decreasing the likes getting TSS (toxic shock syndrome)

I recommend it one hundred percent! =)

Good luck! =)

Guogjorg- the company doesn't recommend you keep it in without cleaning it above 4 hours. If you are keeping it in for longer than that then you are increasing your risk of getting an infection. And trust me that reusing something like that every month is not clean or healthy for you. And if you ever have to rinse that out in a public restroom you are risking spreading disease. HIV, Hepatitis B or C, viral hemorrhagic fevers. Not to mention West Nile or Malaria.

I guess, my best suggestion would be for you to talk to your gynecologist about it before you decide. There are probably things she knows about it as far as how safe it is that the website is not going to tell you.

I wish I could find something simple to use other than pads/tampons. Prolonged use (as in using them the length of my period (7 days)) causes an allergic reaction apparently & it isn't fun. :/
