You, Your Beeswaxx, and Other People

Ever gone somewhere or joined a site where you want to make friends or just talk about things that aren't stressful/just wanting to "escape" from some drama? If no, then you are free to stay. If yes, continue. Now, on that site or in that place, ever met someone that started asking too many questions about your life about your family and what-not? Ever met that one person that was so nice, but was also a bit too "nosey"? I bet you have, and I bet you DID NOT LIKE IT. (If you did, that's okay.) Main question is; Has someone gotten all up in your "beeswaxx"?

EXAMPLE; Say you're on Blogger or Twitter or something, and you're posting about having bf-troubles or family-troubles. Out of all your friends' comments, you see one from someone you don't know. You reply back, no big deal. Then they reply back, and it's like they're about to tell you their life story or give you a survey. Then they start asking if they can help you, if they can talk to your family, or something else that completely throws you off your rocker. You politely say "No thank you." Now imagine this continuing on and on and ON AND ON AND ON with EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM, until you feel the need to (politely) say "It's okay. I can handle this myself." (Then we end up disproving ourselves and ask someone we know for help.)

BASICALLY, had you ever had that one stranger, someone you've never met before, get all up in your business? Discuss, ne?

Yikes! I hope this isn't happening to you. Sometimes like on facebook poker, guys will ask for asl (age/ sex/ location) but I ignore..its never a good idea to give personal info to strangers. And I have the same respect.. I don't ask personal questions, no need to really. If I had a problem , I would be blocking the person..I hate that the world has become such an untrusting place, but creeps exist Happy

I've never had anything like that before. I've had people asking for ASL like Kitty, I've even had two stalkers trying it on, asking to meet me. One of them kept saying to me - can I come to your house?? And I was like WTF Nooooo and when I told him I was staying at my Aunt's he asked me where she lived and if he coud come round my Aunt's house - which was AWFUL. But I've not had some stranger getting into my business and asking to help out, I don't see why any stranger would offer that service? It's like you saying to me right now that you wouldn't mind talking to a family member on my behalf to fix an arguement!!!

Sorry this is uber long, but no I haven't had this happen and if it happening to you you need to knock it on the head before it becomes obsessive!!

no, never had that happen to me. sound very creepy! i'm not very careful on-line but i really think we(everyone) need to be more private on-line, scary stuff can happen if they (the bad guys) get a hold of too much personal info.

no, i only "friend" people i know on facebook, and on my other things like myspace and twitter, its all for my modeling/pageantry, so i only add people i can associate with professionally. if someone begins to harass me, i delete them. if they begin to stalk me online, i prosecute (yes, it has gotten to that point before).

these people just need to understand that when you say NO, you mean business. thats all.

good luck!

xoxo

@ All posters; Well, asking for ASL is pretty much getting in your business, but if it's unavoidable, then I give them another name I made up.

To Kitty; The only problem I have is that someone on another site keeps trying to be in my business, and he keeps trying to add me. Only problem is, I can't block him, and he's got more than one account on said site purely because of an incident caused by one of my friends that I now have to deal with. BUT ANYWAY, I don't ask personal questions either, unless the person I'm talking to lets me ask.

To Lolly; I've had someone do that, too. (Asking to meet me, I mean.) But I'm not letting this become obsessive. As a matter of fact, this is the least of my worries.

To Heather; I agree with that completely. (Even I'm not careful online sometimes.)

To Rachie; I do limit the people I talk to on Myspace and Cosspace, at least. Sites like Gaia Online and on here I'm open to make friends, granted those on Gaia aren't psychotic and freaky stalkers.

I dont tend to have this problem on Twitter/Facebook/etc as I protect my posts. My Twitter feed is only viewable by friends, and my FB wall can only be seen and posted on by friends of friends. If its a really sensetive subject, I restrict the viewability even more. I'm also incredibly vague/evasive about my location until I kno someone really well.

I've had unwanted attention in chatrooms and similar (like YoVille), but I either mock/ignore/block anyone that crosses my comfort line

On the sites you go to, are you able to report people who make you uncomfortable?

Memboleo-Chan: It really worry me at the time, bu I just told em to get lost and deleted and blocked them. I weren't silly enough to tell strangers where I live LOL. So yeah it's not as bad as it seems I suppose, it can easily be got over. I also used to give a fake name. I only used to find that people ask for ASL when you go to chatrooms, which I haven't done in years, but I used to do when I was a little kid :C they really are bad I think.

Heather: That is so true, I think we can all be guilty of that!!

Rachie: I do the same, out of all my friends I think there is only one now who I don't really know. I learnt my lesson after I got stalked, I cut out all the people I didn't know or didn't want to know - if I already knew them. I'm very careful now. The only exception I give is if people on CO+K add me on Facebook, although I feel that's slightly different!? Maybe not...

mambo..if it really botheres you, you may have to delete that acct and start a new one. if that's not an option, id check your acct info and make sure there is nothing there he can use against you. A lot of the time when I join a site I use an alias, I even have a seperate e-mail to use.

Hi folks. On security of sites and what you 'share'. Don't know if you know the difference between http: & https. Sites with a hhtp: address prefix are not secure and anything written on them can be accessed through the web browser. Check it out. Go off this site and google one of the board heading questions and it will come up with the site link Happy hhtps sites are secure and are used for banking etc. Some sites start off http then change to https depending on the page. Check which it is before posting info

Pandora; I am able to report people who make me uncomfortable, but I'm not going to use it until I get really pissed off.

Lolly; It can be, but the thing is, I'm trying to get into cosplay (costume play, a kinda "anime otaku" thing), and so I'm trying to be more "out of my shell" both on here and in real life. Only problem is that I seem to attract the f'in weirdos and freaks on sites. (Except for here, or course.)

Kitty; It doesn't really bother me, it's just that the person trying to add me has a thick head and a bit of an issue..... and he's 24-25 years old. Let's just say I don't normally add guys that old, and he's making a big deal over it. *Note; We actually haven't been talking a whole lot, but every once in a while, he tries to add me, and I ignore it.*

Sheila; When I create account on other sites, I try to use as little info about me as possible, but as close enough info that it's not blatantly obvious that it's fake, so I wouldn't exactly know whether or not that my info's secure.

Isn't that the whole point of blogging? lol Dont' post your business if it bothers you that much...or make it private.

I don't post my business, though. Actually, I'm just as silent on the internet as I am in real life. And the only blog I do have is one for school, I also have one Youtube show, but I haven't done a lot of personal info sharing on it.
