I%27m going down to thimble island

Calum seems to be taking over the whole mew (click the image for the full effect.)

Drowned In Sound was being run out of the mew today, so Calum and I were turfed out. So, to keep ourselves busy we went to the portrait gallery and then took a cruise down the Thames to the 02 (*cough cough* Millenium Dome).

A tightrope walker risking it all

Calum and I spent the day at the Tate looking at all the awesome art. In the evening, we met up with Tom and went for dinner on our favorite boat-on-the-thames-restaurant, which was slightly more turbulent than usual. Afterwards we went to see Bug 08 with Adam Buxton, a night showcasing the latest and greatest music videos, which was very entertaining.

Here’s a photo of Poppy, she’s not our cat but she likes to come and hang out at our mew and fall asleep on my desk. Isn’t she adorable?

In China town hungover

Calum is here to stay for the week. It’s only his second visit to London, so I’ve been showing him the sights. He’s not looking so good though… I think it’s the water.

We started off with bento in the park at Embankment, took in the sights and then browsed comics in Forbidden Planet. Afterwards we went for cupcakes in Candy Cakes, they were delicious.

We took a dander through China Town, giggled at the huge sign for Zombie Strippers, went on the hunt for heart shaped buttons and then went to meet Tom. Calum treated us to a sushi and sake feast at Yo Sushi! for dinner - yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!

The sewing machine%2C the sewing machine

Yesterday I found fabric heaven, aka Goldhawk Road, a street filled with fabric stores. I’d been planning a winter coat for a while (specifications: furry hood and heart shaped pockets) and I managed to pick up the perfect red and black tweed fabric for it. Total cost for materials = £31.

Here’s what I’ve done so far. I just need to finish off the front, add buttons, button holes, pockets and sew in the lining fabric. The belt wont stay but I want to add a fabric rectangle at the back to pull in the waist. It’s going to be Little Red Riding Hood, meets aviator, meets Alice In Wonderland.

The story%27s in the soil

At the start of the week I had a pile of books this high to review. Luckily, I’m about half way though! We went to see Mark Thomas on Tuesday night and he was really good - he was warming up for his new tour. I had a really tasty cocktail called a Creme Brulee which I shall try to recreate on my own. On the way home, we “acquired” this poster for Tom:

Tomorrow night we’re all off to see Zombie Strippers at the cinema with Raz and Toni. I’m not quite sure what to expect. Anyway, I’m off to read the new issue of Bust and attempt to get some sleep.

Fold your way to the perfect underwear drawer

I get in to the habit of collecting things: books, jewelry, beads and even underwear, which can lead to overflowing drawers - a nightmare in the morning. So, recently I’ve been perfecting my folding technique, so that my clothes take up the tiniest amount of space possible.

Here’s how to do it:

Have a sparkling day

I’ve had a crazily busy work week and Snippets 11 is almost complete. Tommi came to visit and I miss him already. I feel a bit like a spoilt brat at the moment, I just got a Playstation 3 and a gorgeous new Tara Tarintino doll and it was only just my birthday last month! At the weekend we went for drinks in Notting Hill for Mr Milway’s birthday in a pretty pub with chandeliers and a dark room filled with fairy lights - I want to go back there.

Jumping in puddles because I can

The weather wasn’t as great today. When I woke up the rain was beating down and it made me happy that we weren’t camping and had bought wellies just in case. Took lots of photos and almost tripped up when the singer from Ghost Of A Thousand walked around me, tangling me up in his microphone cable. Tom got to see My Vitriol, so he was happy (see the photo above).

We played a game of ‘Can you name the members from failed 90’s girl / boy band ________ ?’ all the way home and until we fell asleep, fun!

Candy on the grass

A picnic of jelly fried eggs, sherbet UFO’s, jelly laces, lollipops and candy necklaces may not be the healthiest lunch, but it’s certainly a lot cheaper than any other festival food.

Today, we’re at the Offset festival in East London. Our friend Martyn had a ticket to go, so Tom and I decided to tag along as we hadn’t had our festival fix this year - I’m taking photos for Raz’s site Thrash Hits. There’s a very cool fairy shop with a fairy who covers everyone in glitter, I want to buy or make some wings now.

Last night was The Faint at Cargo, I danced and danced until I felt like I would faint. It was one of the hottest and sweatiest gigs I had been to in a long time and it was awesome.
