How did you get started?
I've always made things since I was little. My mom taught me to knit, crochet and hand sew clothes for my Barbies to keep me occupied in my dad's office at the junkyard we owned. I learned early on to be creative with what I had around me spending so much time at the junkyard.
Fast forward to my days doing the Craft Show circuit I toyed with the idea of opening a super hip, friendly and trend setting yarn store full of color and yarns that you couldn't normally find. This didn't come about until I was on TLC's Craft Wars hosted by Tori Spelling. I needed a good hook for what I was going to do with my prize money if I won and what could be better than opening my dream yarn store? Suffice to say I did not win but I kept the dream alive and did the research and with the support of my husband I was able to open my store in June 2014.
Where are you located?
We are in Grandview Heights, Ohio. It is small suburb nestled next to Columbus, Ohio and close to downtown. Our store is on this charming strip across from the Elementary school and Piece Field park.
Which products do you specialise in?
We love to bring in unique yarns that are fair trade or support other smaller yarn companies. We try to get all the crazy colors that other stores might shy away from. We are also unique because we carry almost no acrylic yarns which puts us at more of a boutique level for yarn stores. I like to think of us as finely curated for these reasons. We also have our own in house dyer that produces Faerie Girl yarns.
Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?
My current favorite is this new mohair and stellina wrapped silk yarn from Frabjous Fibers called Unicorn.
What's on the stereo?
We have a running list that we made on Spotify that goes from oldies like "Mr. Sandman" by the Chordettes to Megan Trainor's "My lips are moving" back to Dollie Parton's "9 to 5", Beirut and even Asia. It's very eclectic and you never know what is coming up next but that's what people love about it. It's a public list so you can find it by searching "Yarn it" on Spotify.
Where else should we visit in your area?
There are a ton of restaurants just up a few blocks like Mazah for fresh homemade mediterranean. Jie's Good Tasting if you are in the mood for Chinese hand rolled dumplings (remember with Chinese food the worse the decor the better the food). Panzera's is a local classic for Pizza. A Few doors down from us is Luck Bro's Coffee where they roast their own beans and keep exceptional teas on hand. They also make these amazing chocolate chip cookies that even when they are cold the chocolate is still gooey (it's blissful delicious witchcraft).

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?
We have lot's of classes every month from beginner to advanced. Everything from socks and hats to complicated color work shawls and sweaters. We put out our class calendar quarterly so that people have time to plan. We also do a lot of private lessons since we know everyone has different schedules.
One of our monthly events is our UFO (Unfinished Objects) Club. At the beginning of the Quarter everyone brings 4 projects that they need to finish and we write them down on a card and number them 1-4. Then we pick a number from a bowl and whatever number is picked is the project they have to get done before the next meeting. At the next meeting everyone puts $1 into the pot If they complete their project we punch the card and put their name in the lottery to win that month's pot. If you get all the punches for that Quarter you get a 15% off shopping day in the store.
Is there anything else you'd like us to know?
Not only do we want to bring new and colorful yarns into our area that no one else carries but we also want to build a great community. We want a place that is friendly to everyone. One customer said it best saying that we have created a "sanctuary of good will".
