Make a Felted Jelly Roll Scarf in #ShopShowcase with Ophir Yarn in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

How did you get started?

We got started as a family owned yarn and fiber arts business when our daughter returned home after college and caught us up in her interest in fiber crafts. We became friends with local shepherds and joined several fiber arts guilds. When the local yarn store closed, we discovered a now outlet for our passion for all types of fiber arts and started Ophir- a yarn and fiber store that teaches and supports spinning, felting, knitting, crocheting and weaving. We've discovered fibers crafts to be a wonderfully health source of fun and friendship for all ages!

Where are you located?

In the northwest side of Ann Arbor, Michigan, between the Miller-Maple exit of M-14 and the Jackson Rd. exit of I-94. Our strip mall, the Maple-Miller Plaza, is next to the intersection of Maple and Miller Roads.

Which products do you specialise in?

We specialize in popular yarn and fiber roving made from natural fibers: Brown Sheep, Noro Yarn, Euro Yarns' Yaya and Queensland Collection, Malabrigo, Stonehedge Shepherd's Wool and Crazy Yarn, and yarn from local fiber artists: CJkoho Designs and Happy Crazy Wool. We're also known for our beginner's classes in knitting and crocheting, our needle and wet felting classes, our Thursday night crafting club with yarn tasting parties, our Family Needlecraft classes, and our "The Needle Crafting Doc is In" sessions for 1-on-1 project help and coaching.

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

Crazy Yarn from Michigan's Stonehedge Fiber Mill is probably the favorite yarn we sell on the web. Besides our beginners classes in knitting and crocheting, we have a lot of fun with our wet felting jewelry making and our needle felting dollmaking classes.

What's on the stereo?

We have YouTube on the TV for DIY demos and will select these by request

Where else should we visit in your area?

You can visit Michigan Stadium, Kelsey Museum, Michigan Theater, Hill auditorium, the Botanical Gardens and many other spots on the Central and North Campus of the University of Michigan.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

In addition to classes, we host fiber arts workshops such as Color Theory, Family Craftapalooza, Mom, Dad and Me Learn to Knit, Wet Felted jewelry, How to make Needle Felted jewelry and dolls. We also host knitalongs and crochetalongs and an annual Afghan square contest.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We like to be knows as the "friendly neighborhood yarn shop" because we like nothing better when groups want to meet at our store, schedule a demo, trunk show or party, or just hang out to enjoy their fiber craft of choice!
