Mix a Frais Au Lait and Blueberry Iced Tea cocktail in #ABiteToEat with Firebug in Leicester, England.

How did you get started?

Over ten years ago a group of friends decided we needed somewhere new to go that was open late, where you could talk all night without the need to shout over the music with a massive range great cocktails and quality beers. So we opened Firebug.

Where are you located?

Leicester city center, in the historic area near to where Richard iii remains were discovered in a car park.

What are your specialities?

Cocktails, burgers and pretty much never closing.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

A cola ham sandwich on fresh granary bread with home made chunky chips and a Blueberry Cheescake cocktail, from our new menu, it's like a pudding in glass; white chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka, chambord, cream and of course blueberries!

What's on the stereo?

Firebug’s in-house music policy is fairly open - we have everything from twee indie (we host Leicester’s annual indie pop alldayer) to ridiculously heavy rock and metal (We have Raging Speedhorn paying us a visit soon), via forward thinking electronic music (DJ Scotch Egg once had to borrow a gameboy from a member of staff to finish his set). The focus is on genuinely great, interesting and inventive music of any genre. Beyond that, we often work with respected local promoters who put on the majority of our shows, and each one has their own tastes and specialities.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Our nearest neighbour is Duffy's, a lovely little Irish bar, lots of Trad Irish music and award winning Guinness. Of course the Richard III visitor's center and Leicester Cathedral where King Richard will be reinterred on 26th March.

Do you host any special events?

We host an eclectic range of events such as live music, comedy, intimate club nights, craft and vintage sales, pub quizzes, art exhibitions,Hip Hop Karaoke, film showings and cocktail making parties, lots of which are free entry.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We're fiercely independent with a strictly 'no attitude' policy and lots of links to the local community, student societies and bands. If you're local and are thinking of hosting any kind of event please get in touch.

Do you have a favorite cafe, restaurant or bar in your town that we should feature? Send us a message!
