Learn how-to knit and crochet yarn bunting in #ShopShowcase with Revival Yarns in Athens, Georgia.

How did you get started?

Revival Yarns was founded in 2014 by co-owners Lindsay and Cara. Lindsay and Cara met in their neighborhood knitting group. It was during these knit nights that the need for an in-town Athens yarn shop became clear and the idea for Revival Yarns was born.

Where are you located?

Revival Yarns is located in Athens, GA. Athens is a small town with a population of about 120,000 people. It is home to the University of Georgia and many creative individuals. Our shop is located in a complex called the Bottleworks that once was a Coca Cola bottling plant.

Which products do you specialise in?

Revival Yarns strives to have a large variety of yarns to suit the needs of our varied customers. Ours yarns are comprised of many luxurious fibers: merino wool, alpaca, silk, linen, cotton, and mohair to name a few. We also carry a wide selection of accessories including knitting needles and crochet hooks in stainless steel, bamboo, and birch. A fun addition to our yarns and accessories are pieces by artists with connections to our community. They include wooden yarn bowls, project bags, shawl pins, and ceramic and metal buttons.

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

We love the yarns we carry by Madelinetosh and Malabrigo. The colors are so vibrant and they feel amazing to work with. One product that we brought in recently and are very excited about is Done Roving Frolicking Feet Gradient Yarn. It is a hand-painted, DK weight yarn with gorgeous color changes. We hosted a Knit-A-Long this month featuring that yarn and it was a huge success! We ran out of chairs!

What's on the stereo?

An eclectic mix of Beatles, Indie Rock, and local bluegrass

Where else should we visit in your area?

That is such a tough question because Athens is full of wonderful places to visit! One can’t miss stop is Treehouse Kid and Craft. It is a fabulous shop full of unique toys and craft supplies. Another fun place to visit is Double Dutch Press. The talented women who run that business are responsible for our fantastic logo. They have a great shop full of beautiful prints, tote bags, tea towels, and more. Both Treehouse and Double Dutch Press offer classes as well. Just up the street from us, there is a great bookstore called Avid Bookshop. Visitors should definitely pop in there to check out their selection of books for all ages. They always have a calendar full of fun events such as children’s story time, book readings, and signings.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

Yes! Our beginning knitting and crochet classes are free with the purchase of materials at Revival Yarns. We also offer more advanced skill based classes. In addition to classes, we offer Knit-A-Longs, host local knitting groups, and host a First Friday Open Knit/Crochet Day on the first Friday of each month. It is a wonderful time for our customers to gather at the shop, socialize, and get inspiration from fellow knitters/crocheters.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We have the best customers ever! They remind us on a regular basis how glad they are that we are here. It never gets old hearing that! Our customers are also responsible for the hand knit and crocheted bunting that decorates our shop. Before opening, we sent out the bunting pattern to the Athens knitting community and were overwhelmed with the beautiful triangles that people created. Each one is unique and means so much to us!
