How did you get started?

I got started as a bartender in New Haven while I was in college. I enjoyed making mixed drinks very much and started experimenting with the little bit of ingredients I had on-hand. More and more people started to ask for the drinks I was making up.

Where are you located?

116 Crown St. in the 9th Square in New Haven, CT.

What are your specialities?

We feature over 50 original drinks on every menu iteration. I tend to make a lot of drinks with gin, herbs, and european liqueurs - but inspiration is found everywhere and strikes me in unexpected ways. I think my true specialty is being able to express myself in a language of drinks.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

It changes - but usually something with gin.

What's on the stereo?

Also always changing. Lately lots of Blood Orange & LCD Soundsytem in preparation for both their new albums

Where else should we visit in your area?

I have a sandwich shop next door called Meat & Co. that I often describe the offerings as 'cocktails on bread'. Similar creativity and inspired whimsical offerings as sandwiches

Do you host any special events?

All the time. We do wine dinners, cocktail dinners, spirit focused dinners, as well as private events. 116 is a great space for birthdays and even the occasional wedding reception.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

As in life; when it comes to drinks: Balance is the key.
