Come behind the scenes at Jewels at Home and see Julie's craft studio in San Francisco.

I love the natural light, with windows on two walls. I also finally have room to store everything in easy reach, which makes it so much more easier to get creative!

Tell us about your space

I'm totally spoiled to have a nice-sized bedroom as my craft studio. This used to double as a guest bedroom, so we had a nice daybed with trundle in the space, but until our boys are tired of sharing a room, I have this space all to myself. I do really love having a getaway from a house full of (amazing, wonderful) boys.

I can do almost anything in this space. I mostly sew and do paper crafts like card-making, but I have also painted, quilted, and I even like hanging out here when I need to do work for my professional job as a genetic counselor.

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

Since I share the rest of my house with a bunch of boys, this is the one room where I wanted to flaunt the feminine, so I have lots of floral prints on the custom roman shades, the magnet boards, the upholstered chairs, and my stenciled lampshade.

How do you keep organized?

Having just read Marie Kondo's book on tidying up, I have given away many of the supplies that I wasn't using. This helped give breathing room to the things I love.

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

Lots of boxes and lots of labels! I try to keep like items together, or it's easy to end up with three glue guns...

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

It's hard to pick a favorite in this room. The Queen Anne chairs I got for free and then painted and re-upholstered are very special to me. I also get to stare every day at the fabric-covered magnet boards and some paper art that I framed in a gallery wall. I hung a very special quilt from my mom in this space. She was a talented and creative person whom I miss very much, so I love being able to remember her every day in this space.

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

My favorite way to do this is online, because I can so easily find and save ideas. I also have a few binders of ideas pulled from magazines. I love going through these binders periodically to edit them. I have a few pictures of homes that I first saved over a decade ago, so I know that the style is timeless and just right for me!

Where do you look for inspiration?

I feel like inspiration is everywhere! I do like browsing online or reading a magazine, but I am honestly inspired by so many things in nature or in people's homes or stores in everyday life.

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

I'm a lucky girl and I have by dream craft space. My only wish is to be able to spend more time here with friends and family!
