I like that even though it's a tiny space that's part of my bedroom, I found a way for it to feel like a creative and organized space! Specifically, I love the tray I found, especially because it has chalkboard on the sides.
Tell us about your space
My 'studio' is a couple corners of my bedroom in an apartment in Los Angeles that I share with my best friend. So because it's really small in there, I wanted to create a sort of moveable studio, so I could take my stuff outside or just out to the living area when I have bigger projects to work on or if I just need more room. I love having an apartment that's shared with my friend, because then I always have someone around to give me an objective opinion on what I'm working on! Unfortunately, the room is a bit dark, so I've been working on finding ways to brighten up the place. I also have been looking for a bigger, more rustic-looking desk to make the place feel a bit more homey. Otherwise, though, I love my space!
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
I've put up some of my works on the wall, along with some of my favorite posters. I also keep one of my favorite illustrated books, This is San Francisco by M. Sasek, on the desk or nearby to help when I'm in a creative block. I'm currently getting my elementary education credential so I also have a bunch of my favorite illustrated kids books around that can give me some inspiration. I also like to look around thrift and antique stores for cute jars and odds and ends to fill the space up and make it feel more creative.
How do you keep organized?
I think my tray is what makes things look more organized, because I can put my jars and miscellaneous items in there without making the desk look cluttered. I organize my jars by the use the items get, so the first jar on the left is full of my most used pens and brushes. The tray is also great because I can take it with me if I feel like working elsewhere. Other than that, having a calendar and a notebook on hand really helps for when I have spur of the moment ideas or plans that I need to write down!
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
I'm going to sound obsessed, but get a tray of some sort! They always make things look more organized, whether it's in a studio, a living room, or even a kitchen! We have a tray in the kitchen as well for tea and coffee stuff and it really makes it look organized (even though it's not really).
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
Yes I do have my own creations on display! I have my most recent works (chalkboard bottles and the apple) on the table and then some of my favorite paper creations on the wall, one of them of course being my mini Giants poster. I love, love, love, the pen set my boyfriend got me for my birthday last year. It's this gorgeous wood box for pens and inks and it came with a really pretty pen holder and the best nibs I have ever found! I honestly don't know what I would do without this stuff. I also am really loving the owl candles I found at a sale, they're so cute! We've even named the bigger one Bernie...
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I'm a bit disorganized with my ideas, unfortunately. They are all over the place! When I'm on the go I put ideas into my iPone's Notes that's connected to my computer's notes. Then I also put things on my calendar, or my notebook, or post-it notes...pretty much whatever is closest!
Where do you look for inspiration?
Mostly Pinterest but also thrift stores and Home Goods. I like just looking around stores and thinking about what odd things I could possibly pick up to write on. Most recently, I picked up these really cute miniature ceramic casserole dishes that are smaller than the size of my palm and I think they'll be super cute as place cards with some treats in them!
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
A separate room, more light, and a perfect and rustic desk or drafting table.
