How-To Knit A Magic Loop

Learn how-to knit a magic loop with Dot from Littletheorem Knits and then use the technique to make her Cloud Cover Hat.

Step 1
Cast on the required number of stitches for your pattern, plus one.
Step 2
Divide the stitches in half, and pull the middle of the needle through so you have stitches at both tips. Make sure the stitches are lying flat as shown, there should be no stitches twisting round the needle.
Step 3
Loosen the last cast on stitch and...
Step 4
...move it to the tip of the other needle and pull the yarn to tighten this stitch. Pull the tip of the back needle so that you'll be able to knit with it.
Step 5
Place a stitch marker on the back needle. This will mark the beginning of the round.
Step 6
Knit the stitch you just moved together with the first stitch you cast on to secure the stitches in a loop.
Step 7
Work all the stitches until the pulled out bit of the needle as directed in your knitting pattern.
Step 8
Your knitting should look like this!
Step 9
Turn your work. You should have the "pulled out" needle closest to you.
Step 10
Push the "pulled out" needle in, and pull the other one out. Now you are ready to work the rest of the stitches in the round.

Keep going as set. Work these stitches, turn your work, push in the "pulled out" needle, pull out the "pushed in" needle and keep knitting the next round.
