Learn how-to make pom poms with La Casita in Brooklyn, New York.

How did you get started?

I visited a yarn shop while I was still a real estate broker and found it relaxing and inspiring at the same time. I wanted to share my experience with novice and skilled creative people alike so I opened my very own shop that includes a WINE BAR! All of my favorite things in one place!

Where are you located?

We are located in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn, NY. It's a small area with lots of mom and pop shops, a real neighborhood. My grandfather ran a small business here as did my father. I am the 3rd generation business owner in the exact same shop.

Which products do you specialise in?

We specialize in knitting and crochet classes as well as yarn, needles and notions for both. We also offer classes in macrame, yarn dyeing, spinning and coming soon, weaving!

Do you have a particular favorite product that you sell?

There are too many delicious yarn brands to choose from. I love them all! They're all my babies.

What's on the stereo?

Nina Simone, Billy Joel, Miles Davis, Gotan Project, Muse, Marc Anthony, The Stones, The Heavy, Tommy Guerrero, Edith Piaf, Eagles, Sade, Frank Sinatra to name a few. It's a real medley potluck around here!

Where else should we visit in your area?

Esposito's Pork Store, family owned for 100 years! By Brooklyn is an amazing store supporting all Brooklyn artists. All restaurants in the area. They all offer their own special twists on their menus.

Do you host any workshops, classes or special events?

We will be hosting a Woolfolk yarn trunk show at the end of the month. We also offer yarn dyeing classes, Vogue Knitting Magazine fashion shows, yarn swaps, wine and bourbon tastings (YES!), kids classes and summer camps, new designer trunk show, group meet ups, educational workshops and much more.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We are the ONLY yarn shop cafe in the tri state area with a wine bar and we were voted by CBS news, one of the top 5 BEST knitting shops in NYC. The only one in Brooklyn! It's definitely worth the visit. We have a comfy couch, fireplace, delicious array of yarn and wine. What more can anyone want?
