Mix up three delicious new cocktails with Heads & Tales gin bar in Edinburgh, Scotland.


How did you get started?

The concept for the bar in reality could have been a concept we used for any spirit. At the time we were not specifically looking to open a Gin focused bar.

The concept was a late night cocktail lounge, where guests of all ages could come and enjoy, great service, excellent & inspirational drinks.
The idea for a Gin focused bar came on the back of being introduced to Edinburgh Gin and the plans to bring their Gin back to the city, by opening their distillery in the heart of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Gin were looking for a space; we had a venue with extra room and as we were not using the venue during the day, it made sense for us to collaborate, the combination of the Edinburgh Gin Distillery being open during the day and Heads & Tales Bar in the evening.

Just to be clear we are two separate businesses that share the same venue. We do help each other from time to time which works great for both of us.

The physical appearance of the venue was created from inspiration from a few different venues we had worked in or visited in the past. We liked the idea of a space that had aspects of old & new, industrial while comfortable. The copper made sense with the Edinburgh Gin stills (Flora & Caledonia) being so impactful on the space.

Most of the furnishings are all purpose made to fit the space.

Where are you located?

We are hidden away at West End of Princes Street, tucked underneath the Huxley, next to Ghilli Dhu and Rat Pack.

What are your specialities?

Gin, gin and more gin! As well as a gin focused cocktail list, we have over 50 gins on our back bar at any one time, but we try to focus specifically Scottish gin. Don't worry there's plenty of other spirits to choose from as well.

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

Our cocktail menu changes seasonally, every 3 months, this is to keep our menu fresh and up to date.
On the current menu the Unusual Collins is a particular favourite among the team.
It's a variation in a classic Gin Collins with the addition on Beetroot and Grape juice. It's a lovely combination of both sweet and earthy flavours.

What's on the stereo?

The stereo is commonly misused by all the staff and we decide what we like on the evening before shift. It could be anything from 90's R&B to Smooth Jazz.
It keeps things interesting.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Kyloe is a must for any steak enthusiast. The Westrooms has a lovely brunch menu and Panda & Sons for some delicious cocktails.

Do you host any special events?

We often hold a Brand Pop Up evenings where we forces on one specific gin for the evening. So far we've hosted Bombay Sapphire, Hendricks and a few others.
We look to introduce the Brands and their versatility to our regular guests.
