Come behind the scenes at Things for Boys and explore Abby's serene craft room.

I love the light! There are so many windows so there is light coming in from everywhere.

Tell us about your space

It's about 4 x 4m. It is traditionally a second living room, but since we don't need a second one, it makes a perfect craft room. There is room off to the side for Roman to have a few toys so he plays up there while I'm working. I mostly sew in my craft space, but the nice big cutting table comes in handy for all kinds of projects.

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

I haven't done a lot, it's a work in progress. I have put up a few select pieces of art on the walls. They are paintings done by friends, which I find very inspiring.

How do you keep organized?

Hubby has built me a large cutting table with storage cubes on either end. I can store so much in it! I also have an Ikea desk with drawers that hold a lot too. Having lots of storage makes it much easier to keep organised. I know where everything is.

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

I've always believed in the expression 'a place for everything and everything in its place. If all your items have a place to go, then you always know where they are. It makes your work time more efficient when you aren't searching through piles of stuff.

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

The only creation of my own I have on display is a piece of fabric I had printed in my own sunflower design. I used it to make a handbag. I also love my Vintage Singer Sewing Machine, which is new to me. It was built in 1947 as sews as beautifully as it did the day it was built!

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

I mostly use Pinterest, though I do have about 5 notebooks all over the house that I jot ideas down in when inspiration strikes. Oh, and an excel spreadsheet too.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I find inspiration in a lot of places. It usually depends what I'm making. If it's something for one of my boys, then I like to draw inspiration from their interests, that way I know what I make will be a hit. If it's for me, I get a lot of inspiration from movies and tv and also street style.

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

Put new lights in! I hate working in there at night because the lights are in a bad spot, so I'm always making shadows over my work. I'd also find some magic cupboard that was always full of lush fabric. Finally, I'd love to have a kettle up there so I could brew up some tea while I'm working.
