A lot of effort pays off for these beauties!
These take a lot of time to make, but the effort you put in them are easily appreciated when your valentine sees how much detail you've put in them!

I'm going to make a valentine "mailbox" out of a cereal box, and I'm going to put these adorable hearts all over it. All in all, it will be the most girlie/valentine-y/pink thing I give my boyfriend.

  • Step 1

First of all, get paper of the color/type that you want. You can do colors, or lined paper, or draw your own stuff on blank paper. It can be think or thin, and whatever size you want.

For my first hearts, I wrote "I love you" over and over on a lined piece of paper. (I think hearts made with lined paper turn out pretty cute.)

The point of this project is to put a lot of work into these, so make a design on your paper. For most of mine, I just scribbled on colored paper. Circles, lines, loops, what have you. It has a nice effect when you cut them out.

  • Step 2

Next, take another piece of paper. Draw hearts of all shapes and sizes, or even print them out. Find the heart you like the most, and cut it out.

Now, trace the heart over and over on the page. Go back and make the outlines much thicker and darker.

I highly suggest using a pen or marker to do the designs/borders, because pencil smudges.

    Step 4

Cut out along the OUTSIDE of the darkened outlines of the hearts, so when the hearts are cut out, they have a nice dark border along their edges.

It's easier to cut out the hearts after separating them from the rest of the paper. (See picture)

You could just cut out a ton hearts from a bunch of papers stacked on top of each other at one time, but without the border it won't look as "finished".

    Step 5

To make camouflage hearts, pick a paper that is white or matches the color scheme you will use for the camouflage.

Trace the original heart in one color (such as forest green) on the page. Space them apart and make sure they aren't all facing the same way.

    Step 6

Now take another color (dark green)and trace the heart again. This time, overlap the heart with the hearts already on the page. When tracing the heart, only trace the parts of the heart that is between the first hearts you traced on. (See picture.)

I messed up, but you can see where I messed up better in a later picture.

    Step 7

Continue adding more hearts in different colors, (brown, tan)in between the spaces between the hearts already on the page.

After you have finished, color in the hearts with corresponding colors. You can see where I messed up in this picture, because I didn't color in the heart.

I haven't done it in this picture yet, but you will want to color in the white spaces in between the hearts if you didn't use colored paper. Use a corresponding color, but one that is different than the ones already used.

  • Step 8

Now, trace the original heart over the camouflage hearts, and go back and make a darker, thicker border. Cut the hearts out.

You're done! Lots of effort, but it is well appreciated, trust me. In fact, if they don't notice how much work are put into these, you can explain how much you did in a proud, excited voice. They will definitely notice then!
