Operation! You're The Doctor!

Make your own interactive boardgame suit!
 <  Image 1 of 2  >

I have to start by saying that my husband is such a good sport! He's allowed me to dress him up for Halloween in some pretty embarrassing costumes, including a little mouse and a giant, fuzzy Pink Panther, but this Halloween was my favorite so far. I made him a costume based on the original Operation board game, complete with light up nose and buzzy tweezers.
He was a big hit at the party we went to, although the dogs had a good time chasing his parts, and I'll need to remake them due to saliva and dog hair.

I'm thinking of turning some of the pieces into brooches to wear on a body themed tote bag or purse.

  1. Step 1

Start with a turtle neck and pair of pants, both white. Die them to whatever skin tone you like with RIT dye. I used scrubs for the pants and had to dye them three times to get them to be a close match to the shirt!

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Using red fabric paint, paint all of the body part outlines. Label each with black fabric paint.

  3. Step 3

Cut pieces of velcro for each body part and attach one side to the painted outlines on clothing.

  4. Step 4

Cut each body part out of white felt. Attach velcro (I used iron on fusible velcro). I cut two pieces of felt for each shape, stitched them with white embroidery floss and filled them with a little cotton batting. I wanted them to be able to hold up to lots of pinching and pulling.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

For the "Ankle bone connected to the knee bone" I used two extra large hooks and a length of 1/4 inch tan elastic sewn into a circle.

  6. Step 6

The tweezers are our grill tongs with red electrical tape wrapped around the handle. A pair of clown hand buzzers were taped to the inside of the tongs, so that when someone tried to grab a body part they would buzz.
