DIY Boutonnieres

  • Completed Project: DIY Boutonnieres Picture #1

Forget big budget bouts, make your own for cheapsies!

I'm not a big fan of blowing tons of money for things I can do myself, so a $700 floral bill was not in the cards for my wedding budget! Using lots of things I had around the house and $6 worth of dried and silk florals, I whipped up these boutonnieres for the men in my wedding. Easy, elegant, and fast! I had five done in under an hour while watching Food TV.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Gather your ingredients

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Cut leaf shapes from felt using a template or drawing your own. Then embroider veins on leaves with a contrasting color thread. Backstitch works nicely!

  3. Step 3

Apply a small bead of hot glue at the base of leaf and press the end of a toothpick into it. This will create your base.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Add another bead of hot glue and layer your greenery and one bloom in place. Add another bead of glue if needed. Secure by wrapping floral and greenery stems to toothpick tightly using floral tape.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Wrap stem with ribbon, securing ends with hot glue. Cut a short length of ribbon and tie it tightly around the top of the stem, just under your bloom. Double knot, and trim excess.

Now this is certainly worth it. It look nice and just as good as purchased ones.
I hate it when I see people spending hundreds of dollars on flowers they easily could do themselves.
